ALBUM OF THE DAY: Beastie Boys – Licensed To Ill

This album. Let me tell you a little something about this album. I love this album. Forever.

My older brother Steve first got me into the Beastie Boys back in the early ’90s when I was a youngster. They’ve been a staple of my musical diet ever since.

When I was young, I really just thought they were cool because my brother did…and because my name is Mike D, so I instantly related.

I’ll never forget hearing the intro to ‘Rhymin & Stealin’ for the first time. It was the coolest shit of all time. And that was even before I knew it was a Led Zeppelin sample.

R.I.P. to MCA. It still hurts my heart to this day that I’ll never hear anything new from one of my favorite bands of all time…

ALBUM OF THE DAY: Avenged Sevenfold – Waking the Fallen

This is one of my favorite metal albums of all time. A friend of mine let me borrow it after telling me to check these guys out. He never got his CD back.

I know a lot of people aren’t into the “screaming” by some bands and I’m normally not either. But something about the way this album is laid out musically from the singing and screaming to the unparalleled instrumental composition is almost untouched in my eyes.

Do yourself a favor and get hyped up to this one today! You won’t regret it.

R.I.P. Rev!

ALBUM OF THE DAY: Nas & Damian Marley – Distant Relatives

Man, this is one seriously amazing album. Are you a fan of reggae? Are you a fan of hip-hop? This album has you covered.

I’m a sucker for “collabos” in any type of music, but this one might take the cake. Each artist individually can stand on their own, but when you combine them on one album, the outcome is really amazing musically.

This is one I didn’t hesitate to pick up a few years back when it came out. I give it my full endorsement!

ALBUM OF THE DAY: Coheed & Cambria – Good Apollo I’m Burning Star IV

Coheed & Cambria is one of my favorite bands around these days and this is the album that initially got me really into them.

First off, let me start by stating that the full album title is Good Apollo I’m Burning Star IV | Volumne One: Fear Through The Eyes of Madness. I mean, just look at that album title! It’s crazy! But I love it.

Their lyrical content and background of their stories are amazing. Once upon a time, I even likened front man Claudio Sanchez to J.R.R. Tolkien with the mythos he’s created. And on top of that, they’re immensely talented musicians.

If you’ve never heard it, give it a listen!
